On 7th July 2014 New York state governor, Andrew Cuomo signed the Compassionate Care Act which legalized the use of medical marijuana in New York, making it the 24th US state to do so.

Pushing the envelope even further, the New York Times ran an editorial in July which endorsed the full, federal legalization of marijuana, arguing that for adults over the age of 21, moderate use of marijuana is no more harmful than tobacco or alcohol.
