DNA Genetics derived their legendary marijuana strain, Chocolope, from an old landrace strain called Chocolate Thai.

Although the original Chocolate Thai was very potent and had very desirable flavours and fragrances, the fact that it takes 14 weeks to flower and then gives up very low yields makes it impractical for commercial growing these days.

So, DNA Genetics took Chocolate Thai and crossed it with their Cannalope Haze.  A much more reliable and stable strain, Cannalope Haze is a pure sativa that has very similar soaring, euphoric effects to Chocolate Thai, but a much shorter flowering time and much larger yields.

Chocolope proved a storming success.  DNA claim Chocolope has won something in every single competition she has been entered in!  What is for certain is that Chocolope was High Times magazine’s strain of the year in 2007 and has won numerous Cannabis Cups and awards at Spannabis.  Chocolope is a much loved variety of cannabis and DNA knew they were onto something – so they started doing what they do best – experimenting with the genetics of Chocolope to develop more hybrid strains with the power, stability and yield of Chocolope and the best attributes of other premium strains:

DNA Genetics developed Chocolate Fondue by pollinating Exodus UK Cheese with Chocolope.  Exodus Cheese is the original Cheese strain that enjoyed a huge surge in popularity a few years ago.  DNA masterfully harnessed the best qualities of the Cheese and enhanced them with the addition of the Chocolope genetics.  The resulting strain is an 80% Sativa hybrid with an amazing flavour and powerful relaxing high.  Chocolate Fondue has been popular with medical users in legal climates as the effects leave you fully functional, yet mellow and relaxed. 

Next up for the Choccy treatment was another of DNA’s multi-award winning varieties, LA Confidential.  DNA Genetics were inundated with requests to create this hybrid and they duly obliged, and how!  The resulting strain – LA Chocolat is a 40% Sativa 60% Indica variety that borrows the medicinal properties of LA Confidential and expertly marries them with the prolific, high yielding nature of Chocolope.  LA Chocolat is, to this day, extremely popular with chemotherapy patients as it stimulates appetite and provides superb pain relief.

Finally, earlier this year, DNA Genetics released Tangilope – A mouth-watering cross of their multi award winning Tangie strain, and our old friend Chocolope.  Tangilope is an 80% Sativa 20% Indica hybrid.  Breeders operating in legal climates have reported very vigorous growth and a 9 week finishing time.  Flavour wise, this is truly special – the frankly staggering, lip smacking citrus and tangerine flavours from the Tangie side of the genetics mix delightfully with the chocolate cream from the Chocolope – just sublime.
