Amsterdam Glassworx Release More Stunning New Glassware
Amsterdam Glassworx
Regular readers of this blog will recall how impressed we were when we took delivery of the first batch of glass smoking apparatus from Amsterdam Glassworx.
We knew who was making it, and we expected it to be good, but we were truly blown away with the level of craftsmanship and detail when we saw the glass first-hand.
Master lampworker, Chris Rawkins, learnt his trade with Shiva Glass under the tutelage of Amsterdam’s Cannabis College. Over the years he has honed his skills and mastered the most complex glassmaking techniques and now, he has launched his own company; Amsterdam Glassworx. Chris has a very clear vision of how glass should be made; a mindset that has stayed with him all the way through his career – he believes in utilising the traditional skills of lampworking and flameworking to create truly unique glassware that cannot be replicated in huge quantities. Chris eschews the temptation of using machinery to make his glass waterpipes and oil rigs. He prefers instead to adhere to the more labour intensive methods and hand pulls all his glass. Of course, the disadvantage of this is that he cannot mass produce his work, but here at PureSativa we believe that is a price worth paying, and when you see Chris’s work, we think you’ll agree:
These new Helio Sherlock Pipes combine a wide range of glass making techniques to create. Standing 110mm tall, the Helio Coil Sherlock with Dichroic Appendage is a breathtakingly beautiful piece of art glass.
Using the very best Schott-Duran borosilicate glass, Chris creates the shape of the pipe by first hand-weaving lattacino spirals of coloured glass into a tube, which he then manipulates into the classic Sherlock form.
Using sparkling dichroic glass and more colour, the lampworker then hand-pulls and twists the handle or appendage into position which gives the piece better stability and provides the user with a natural gripping point when using the pipe.
Finally, Chris adds decorative marbles to the piece which bear the X3 signature of Amsterdam Glassworx, leaving no one in any doubt as to the creator of the piece.
As with all Glassworx creations, the pipes then go through a 24 hour annealing period which removes any stresses from the glass and strengthens it immeasurably, ready for a lifetime of use with its lucky new owner. After a series of rigorous quality checks, the glass Sherlocks are ready for dispatch to the UK and the PureSativa shelves.
The Helio Coil Sherlock with Dichroic Appendage is available in your choice of 5 stunning colour schemes. A true connoisseur’s piece from a glass studio on a meteoric rise. You saw them here first, folks! Order today to avoid disappointment.
