The Cali Connection

The wait is finally over!  We’ve been waiting to get our hands on these new cannabis seeds from Cali Connection ever since we found out they were in development.

Cali Connection are one of our favourite seedbanks here at Sativa Towers.  These guys are completely, utterly, almost to the point of being a bit bonkers about it, in love with Kush.  Their whole range of seeds is peppered with Kush genetics and derivatives.  Their fascination with OG Kush led them to develop the flagship Tahoe OG Kush which now finds itself a regular part of the pedigree of their new strains.  In short, they have built an entire cannabis empire on the back of their love for Kush.  What’s not to like?

Grape OG is a new 60% Sativa / 40% Indica strain with a mouth-watering pedigree.  Cali Connection took their Grape Romulan and gave it the Kush treatment by crossing it with Tahoe OG Kush.

Amsterdam Glassworx

Regular readers of this blog will recall how impressed we were when we took delivery of the first batch of glass smoking apparatus from Amsterdam Glassworx.

We knew who was making it, and we expected it to be good, but we were truly blown away with the level of craftsmanship and detail when we saw the glass first-hand.

Master lampworker, Chris Rawkins, learnt his trade with Shiva Glass under the tutelage of Amsterdam’s Cannabis College.  Over the years he has honed his skills and mastered the most complex glassmaking techniques and now, he has launched his own company; Amsterdam Glassworx.  Chris has a very clear vision of how glass should be made; a mindset that has stayed with him all the way through his career – he believes in utilising the traditional skills of lampworking and flameworking to create truly unique glassware that cannot be replicated in huge quantities.  Chris eschews the temptation of using machinery

Held in the border town of Irun in the Basque region of northern Spain, ExpoGrow is Europe’s largest cannabis fair.

The exhibition of all things cannabis covers an astonishing 12,000 square metres and features exhibition tents from over 100 industry notables as well as other attractions such as a concert arena with live music, an art exhibition, a live cabaret show and many other fun events including a surfboard simulator, human table football, an exhibition of traditional Basque rural sports and a Formula 1 simulator.

This year’s ExpoGrow was a huge success with around 13,000 attendees converging upon Irun for the festival from all over Europe and further afield.

There were many success stories from ExpoGrow 2014, but a special mention goes to our friends at T.H. Seeds after the Amsterdam outfit scooped three separate awards for their remarkable cannabis varieties:

Colorado-based seed company, Rare Dankness, landed an incredible three awards at the recent U.S. High Times Cannabis Cup which was held on the 6th and 7th September in Seattle, Washington State.

The award show held on Sunday 7th September was, by all accounts, a pretty raucous affair with American marijuana lovers attending the event in their droves and really getting into the Cannabis Cup spirit.

The evening began well for Rare Dankness as they clinched first place for Best U.S. Hybrid with their Veganic Starkiller OG – exhibited by William Braveheart Green for Vegamatrix.  Visibly delighted as they accepted the award, this prize clearly meant a lot to the RD team, and when one considers some of the powerhouse breeders they were up against, who can blame them?  Rare Dankness were only founded in 2010, and are certainly punching above their weight for such a young company.

Next up was another first place;

In response to the surge in popularity of herbal oils, waxes and concentrates as the substance of choice for herbal aromatherapy connoisseurs, we have seen a huge number of specialist products reach the market – all specially designed for use with sticky, resinous extracts.

DNA Genetics derived their legendary marijuana strain, Chocolope, from an old landrace strain called Chocolate Thai.

Although the original Chocolate Thai was very potent and had very desirable flavours and fragrances, the fact that it takes 14 weeks to flower and then gives up very low yields makes it impractical for commercial growing these days.

So, DNA Genetics took Chocolate Thai and crossed it with their Cannalope Haze.  A much more reliable and stable strain, Cannalope Haze is a pure sativa that has very similar soaring, euphoric effects to Chocolate Thai, but a much shorter flowering time and much larger yields.

Chocolope proved a storming success.  DNA claim Chocolope has won something in every single competition she has been entered in!  What is for certain is that Chocolope was High Times magazine’s strain of the year in 2007 and has won numerous Cannabis Cups and awards at Spannabis.  Chocolope
